Laleham Church of England Primary School

Sports Funding

At Laleham Church of England Primary School, we trust that Physical Education contributes significantly to children’s learning and development across physical, social, emotional and cognitive domains; putting it at the centre of wellbeing and achievement in education.

When Early Years and Primary Physical Education are taught effectively - we believe -young people can discover the joy of movement and nurture happy active lifestyles.

Our curriculum encompasses a wide range of physical activities - Athletics, Gymnastics, Outdoor Education, Swimming and Dance lessons - that aim to physically motivate and inspire our children. We are committed to delivering at least two hours of high-quality, well-planned Physical Education every week taught by outstanding sports specialists. Furthermore, we endeavour to ensure all our children are undertaking the government’s guidelines, at least 30 minutes, of physical activity a day in school.

As a school, we focus on a developmental, inclusive and safe approach, where children’s acquisition of fundamental movement skills is of high priority. We believe that physical education, experienced in a safe, engaging and supportive environment, is a significant factor in developing our children’s physical competence and confidence.

At Laleham, we encourage children to participate in competitive sports by entering competitions and tournaments within the borough. This year we strive to enter a range of friendly games and in-school competitions to give all children the opportunity to play sports regardless of ability or experience.

Aside from competitive games, we promote sports through a variety of early morning and after-school clubs at the school; we offer the opportunity for children from Reception up to Year 6 to participate in Hockey, Karate, Tennis, Cheer, Dance, Street Dance, Football and Netball clubs.

PE & SportPremium

The government provides additional funding to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. This funding is provided jointly by the Department for Education, Health and Culture and Media and Sport.
PE and Sport Premium funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools.
Purpose of funding
Schools must spend the additional funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they have the freedom to choose how they do this. Laleham CE Primary School received £19,490 in 2024-25.
Digital expenditure reporting return
From 2025, all primary schools were required to complete the digital expenditure reporting return for the 2024-25 academic year. The return outlines how the school has used its  PE and Sport Premium and the impact the premium has had on achieving the aims and objectives of the funding. Our SportPremium and SportPremium returns to DfE and a summary reporting document are available for you to view below.
