Laleham Church of England Primary School

Courageous Advocates

We believe that it is the spiritual and moral principles, nurtured daily, that makes our school unique. At Laleham School, everything we do is for the benefit of the children. But, as a forward-thinking, modern school, we have a responsibility also to educate pupils about their obligations to care about wider society and the environment.

Every opportunity is taken to emphasise that tolerance, understanding, and compassion are essential to living in a vibrant and caring multi-cultural society.

At Laleham Church of England Primary School, we have a strong emphasis on encouraging our pupils to become courageous advocates, not just locally, but nationally and globally.

Below are some of our chosen charities:

Compassion is an international children’s charity who work in 29 countries partnering with 8,600 local churches within communities experiencing poverty. Their vision is to give children and young people the opportunity to thrive and reach their God-given potential both now and into the future.

Manna is a local charity in the Borough of Spelthorne, supporting local families and individuals

The charity's aim is to improve the lives of thousands of children by ensuring that their childhood is safe, happy and secure.

In the last academic year, we have also extended a shared goal to review our environmental impact and protect what we value today for future generations. This has been demonstrated by a conscious move to purchasing more sustainable and traceable materials, working regularly towards a culture of reduce, recycle and reuse. More recently, we were delighted to work in partnership with SuDs (The Schools Sustainable Drainage System) who provided educational workshops for our children and distributed planters across the school. The SuDS planters offers a unique rain garden which captures rainwater from floors rather than letting it flow into the drains. A cleaner greener way to guard against the risk of flooding and pollution.

‘Pupils use their leadership roles to help improve the school environment. Protecting the planet is a shared commitment across the school community. This is demonstrated by a new network of water features designed to reduce hard surface runoff from rainwater.’

Instilling these long-term values of social responsibility and awareness is crucial.

In turn, we are delighted that our pupils are discovering the inestimable rewards of being kind, considerate and compassionate towards others.
